Minors |
If students are having a difficult time being safe, respectful, and responsible in the classroom or school-wide setting, a Major or Minor may be issued.
Minors are given out when students are having a difficult time showing behaviors that are safe, respectful, or responsible. Students receive minors when an undesired behavior is starting to occur, usually for the first time. The teacher will try to reteach the behavior to the student and help them understand why it is unacceptable. If the behavior occurs again, the teacher will write a note informing the student's parents about the behavior. After several reminders for the same behavior, a minor is given out if the behavior is keeping the student from learning or preventing them from being safe. A minor may be given out for:
The consequence of a minor varies. The parents will get a form about the incidence. The parents are strongly encouraged to talk to their child about this behavior. |
Majors
|
A Major is a referral for chronic minors or significant offenses. Major behaviors are managed by the office. Students receive Major referrals for incidents including, but not limited to, those listed on the Major Level Referral Form:
After a Major is received, the student meets with the principal to discuss the consequences of his/her actions. A Major Level Referral Form is completed by the referring staff. One copy stays at school and one copy is sent home to parents for continued communication. Parents are encouraged to discuss this further with their child. Research has shown that verbal acknowledgement and encouragement should consistently be given at least five times more to every correction or reprimand. Each student will be given verbal acknowledgment and encouragement throughout the day, by being given "paws" or "points". Students can earn points by following "The Bulldog Way." Students can receive "paws" by any staff member in the school. Students will then be able to cash in their "paws" on Friday and earn a prize. The students worked together to choose different items they would want to earn. I have attached our acknowledgement menu for you to see what your students might be working towards. Once students earn 30 "points," they will be able to put their card on the school bingo board for the chance to earn another prize. I have also attached our class matrix, which shows our classroom rules that our class has developed together. |
